The Washington Post has just published an article that examines the president’s upcoming month-long vacation to Crawford. The article discusses the vaction from the perspective of the right (Bush reconnecting with the real America) and the perspective of the left (Bush is a lazy shit who is dodging work and drawing attention away from Karl Rove).
Just for a moment, I would like to offer my own perspective regarding the president’s upcoming vacation. To further expand my perspective, I think it is valid to point out that I grew up less than twenty miles (as the crow flies) from Crawford, so I think I may comment as a native.
Why in the hell would the most powerful man in the world choose to “vacation” in the middle of Central Texas during the hottest month of the summer? He could go anywhere in the U.S. for God’s sake, and he chooses to go to a ranch in the middle of Texas! Good lord. That’s not a vacation. I don’t know what it is…maybe some kind of penance.
I could care less about the different political interpretations of his summer sojourn to Crawford. What concerns me is the mental health of someone who considers ranch work in the middle of August as enjoyable.
