From watching all the news about Harriet Miers you’d think the only cases likely to come before the Supreme Court are cases concerning abortion and gay marriage. Every time I hear these goofy politicians and pundits talking about abortion rights and gay marriage, I can’t help but think of George Carlin’s bit about abortion on his album “Back In Town:”
“Catholics and other Christians are against abortion”¦and they’re against homosexuals”¦ well who has less abortions than homosexuals?! Leave these fuckin’ people alone! Here’s an entire class of people guaranteed never to have an abortion! And the Catholics and the other Christians are just tossin’ them aside. You’d think they’d make natural allies!”
I don’t think the conservatives would have been happy unless Bush was to have nominated someone slightly less radical than Pat Robertson. And as uncoordinated as the liberals are, they would have bitched and moaned no matter who got nominated.
The simple fact of the matter is that Miers has no experience as a judge. And don’t give me that crap about her being a lawyer is experience enough. That’s like applying for a job as a pilot and listing your experience as consisting of having flown many missions on the “Top Gun” arcade game in the late 80’s. Shit, Judge Judy has more experience than this woman. Why didn’t he nominate Judy? There’s someone I could get behind.
