Apparently, if your hard drive has failed, one way of retrieving data is to place the irksome drive in a ziplock bag and set it in the freezer for five minutes. (Please don’t do this, as I have no idea if it actually works)

As simple as that sounds, some people can screw up the most simplistic of instructions. Check out this guy’s situation.
